Kellie Terry

“I refuse to let this illness dominate me, I’ve got to keep on living because I know a kidney is coming.”
— Kellie Terry
Life is full of unexpected twists, but for Kellie, every turn has been met with faith, strength and unwavering hope. A lifelong resident of Indianapolis, Indiana, Kellie has built a life filled with love and resilience. As a devoted mother of three and a proud grandmother to four beautiful grandchildren, she cherishes every moment she gets to spend with her family. Whether it’s listening to an audiobook, watching a great movie, or experiencing the thrill of an amusement park ride, Kellie finds joy in the simple things.
Yet, beneath her vibrant spirit is a challenge she faces daily — waiting for a lifesaving kidney transplant. Each night, she undergoes peritoneal dialysis at home, a process that helps remove toxins from her body, which healthy kidneys would normally do, while she sleeps. Though it makes sleeping more difficult, it allows her to maintain some normalcy in her daily life. But dialysis is not a cure. Over time, the toll of kidney disease will progress, and she will need the ultimate gift — a kidney transplant — to truly live.
She has had good days and difficult days, but through it all, she continues to work full-time, remain active in her church and embrace life with determination.
Her words reflect the powerful mindset of a fighter—someone who chooses to live with gratitude. Even in moments of uncertainty, Kellie’s faith reassures her that a brighter future lies ahead.
For those who know Kellie, her story is an inspiration. But beyond that, it’s also a reminder of the incredible impact of organ donation. Over 1,200 Hoosiers, just like Kellie, are waiting for a second chance at life. A single kidney donation can transform a life, allowing someone to continue being a mother, a grandmother, a friend.
Despite the challenges, Kellie remains grateful. She knows that each day is a blessing and that her journey is leading her to the perfect match. Until then, she will keep believing, keep living and keep inspiring those around her.
